ARGENTINA: Means silver, Located in South America in the southern hemisphere, Argentina has an area of almost 3.8 million square kilometers. It borders Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile.

Argentina’s current population is more than 38 million inhabitants, almost half of which live in the city and the province of Buenos Aires. Spanish is the official language of the Argentine Republic and the official Argentine currency is the Peso. There are bills of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos, and coins of 1 peso and 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents.

There is complete religious freedom in Argentina, although Roman Catholicism prevails. Other religions practiced in the country are Protestant, Jewish, Moslem, Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox and others. Argentina possesses some of the world's tallest mountains, expansive deserts, and impressive waterfalls...

BUENOS AIRES: Buenos Aires is an energetic, and seductive port city, stretches south-to-north along the Rio de la Plata, and has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. Modern, dynamic, bustling with activity, and full of history, this great capital of the Argentinean republic, however, has managed to conserve old traditions and unforgettable small niches. It fascinates the traveler with its ambience, with the very different personalities. With the kindness of its people and its ample offer of cultural as well as shopping opportunities.

It was founded by the Spaniards. Located on the banks of the Río de La Plata, and surrounded by the splendor of the Argentinean countryside, you will find a harmonious mix of old buildings like colonial time mansions, with modern skyscrapers and museums, theatres and coffee shops. It’s population has grown due to the constant waves of immigrants, mainly of European stock, all which has given it a very interesting cultural framework.

La Reina del Plata, surrounded by the Province of Buenos Aires on one side and the Río de La Plata river on the other, proudly proclaims itself to be the "City that never sleeps". For those that enjoy night life there are restaurants and pastry shops open 24 hours a day. You can even go shopping until midnight in many commercial malls and shops.

The dining options in Buenos Aires are endless. The first thing that comes to the mind of the traveler that has chosen Argentina as his (or her) destination is probably a tender cut of prime beef, probably accompanied by a delicious chimichurri steak sauce.

This is a city that takes dining seriously, and meals can easily last a few hours. Like the national norm, nobody here really starts eating until 9pm. Main courses usually consist of an asado, a barbecue of excellent quality beef.

The local wine is also good, especially the reds. You also might want to try mate, the traditional gaucho drink. For dessert the custom is to eat a fresh fruit, ice cream or flan with a creamy sweet boiled milk toffee called dulce de leche.
Buenos Aires is never more alive than it is at night. It is what you'd expect from a city that invented the tango, their national dance. It is perhaps the best expression of that spirit--practiced in dance halls, parks, open plazas, and ballrooms; it is a dance of intimate separation and common rhythm, combining both an elegant reserve and an exuberant passion.

Avenues come alive with people on their way to restaurants and theaters, especially Puerto Madero or Recoleta. People like to dress up and stay out until dawn, and anyone who visits the city should go and see a tango show. After dinner or a night of dancing, Porteños like to grab a coffee at one of the city's myriad cafes, chat, and perhaps watch the sunrise
When it comes to shopping, Buenos Aires can be one of the most charming places anywhere. From its grand boulevards to the winding streets of Arroyo, the city offers an endless variety of boutiques, galleries, and antique shops. The Sunday Flea Market in San Telmo provides excellent, leisurely people-watching and shopping, and there is a very good Sunday Antiques Fair at the Plaza Dorego.

The traveller arriving in Buenos Aires should remember that in the southern hemisphere the seasons are the opposite of what they are in the northern hemisphere.

The city of Buenos Aires enjoys a warm and benign climate during the whole year. Average mean annual temperatures do not show many extremely hot or cold days, which permits the visitor to walk around the city during all seasons of the year
